Laboratory of Evolutionary Morphology of Vertebrates

Profile

This research group focuses on the different aspects of musculoskeletal development, comparative anatomy, function and evolution across vertebrate groups. They use different methodologies for this research:

  • Dissections
  • Histological sectioning
  • Shape analysis
  • 3D visualization
  • Biomechanics
  • Computer modelling

Previous and ongoing research in the group focuses on opercular deformities and skeletal deformities in general in gilthead seabream. More recently, they described normal and abnormal histology of the opercular bone morphogenesis in seabream and worked out a protocol to perform high resolution shape analyses on early larval stages in aquaculture fish using European seabass larvae.
